FCDS Middle School Team Places Fourth in MathCounts Competition

On Saturday, February 17, 10 middle school students competed in the MathCounts chapter competition at Wake Forest University. More than 100 students from 11 schools in the region competed.

The FCDS MathCounts team earned fourth place. The team was Praneel Silwal, Sophie Garcia, Zara Qureshi, Abigail Tan, Taylor Clark, Grayson Gerber, Mia Iancu, Eli Meister Kluetghen, Aditi Patel, and Miller Pocock.

The students had fun solving challenging problems during individual and team rounds. Praneel (team captain), Sophie, Zara, and Abigail represented FCDS during the Team Round.

Grayson was our school’s top-scoring student, with Grayson and Praneel both finishing in the top 20. Abigail was the top-scoring sixth grader in the whole contest and was presented with a medal. The second highest-scoring sixth grader in the whole contest was Zara.

“We’re proud of all of the students for all of their hard work,” said MathCounts Coach Charlotte Phillips.
