We believe we have an important role in shaping our students’ academic success as well as their strength of character. In order to have that impact, we must instill ethical values through an integrated curriculum, modeling, and intellectual discussion.
Our core values emphasize problem-solving and social and emotional skill development. Our intention is to integrate valuable character traits into the total school environment. As a school, we are focusing on four character traits that we believe are personal qualities that build a foundation for success in life and work.
Building leadership skills are also strongly valued. These skills are introduced and fostered as students serve on councils, head clubs, captain teams, perform individual and group tasks in the classroom, and engage in service activities that address the needs of the greater community.
All students are appointed a faculty advisor upon entering the Upper School. The advisor’s main purpose is to promote consistent and productive communication among students, teachers, parents, and college counselors throughout the student’s Upper School career. The advisor coordinates parent conferences and the student’s schedule and provides overall guidance to the student throughout the school year. Parents are encouraged to use the advisor as the first line of contact with the school.
Forsyth Country Day recognizes that preparation for college is a significant component of a student’s experience here. Our College Counseling program seeks to provide each student with the guidance, support, encouragement, and information necessary to make appropriate choices for future educational opportunities.
Each student is assigned a college counselor at the end of ninth grade and develops a close relationship over the course of high school. Students meet with college counselors regularly as they provide a constant source of guidance and support.
Students may obtain their locker number during the Fall Book Sale or at the beginning of the school year. Lockers are used to store textbooks, notebooks, and other personal items. Since we maintain a strict honor code many students do not use a lock.
FCDS considers driving to school a privilege. For the safety of the entire community, common driving courtesy is expected at all times. All Upper School students have the opportunity to drive to and park at school. Students must register their cars with the Upper School office and park in designated areas.
Students have different options for lunch as well as different locations to eat lunch. Our dining hall is operated by FLIK and students can review our lunch menu daily. Each student is given a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and Fury Card that he/she uses to access his/her meal plan.
All students are encouraged to participate inclubs and activities. Students will find a wide range to chose from including everything from creative writing to computer science to service.
FCDS also features a full spectrum of opportunities for students in the arts. Students can participate in award-winning programs in the visual arts, choral music, and instrumental music, and take part in drama or musical.
Additionally, FCDS offers Enrichment, which conveniently offers a wide array of arts instruction in music, visual arts, drama, and dance to our own students as well as to the general public.
