Middle School years are characterized by great leaps of growth in cognitive, social, and physical development.

At FCDS, we embrace this time of growth and change so our programs are designed to respond to the needs of adolescence. How?

  • Our skills-based curriculum seeks to develop confident, successful students and lifelong learners.
  • Our team approach to teaching encourages communication, cooperation, and interdisciplinary connections among our dedicated faculty.

  • We support character development and overall wellness.
  • Co-curricular activities, an important component of life in Middle School, include community service, athletics, drama, and exploratory.

It's exciting to see students grow through learning and take advantage of unique opportunities, including orchestra, global studies, maker space, or electives like STEAM, forensics, engineering, or creative writing.

The best part: our teachers get to truly know our students and are a constant source of support and encouragement. Our families play an active role in their child's education. And our students thrive in a safe and caring environment.

What Makes Our Middle School Unique

List of 6 items.

  • Personal Attention

Due to our small class sizes, our teachers can help students who need more assistance and offer greater challenges for those who are already excelling. Our teachers build real relationships with our students and provide personalized attention.
  • Invested Faculty

Our experienced teachers really know our students. Tutorial is available daily after school so students can meet with teachers to ask questions, gain guidance, and prepare for upcoming assessments.
  • A Variety of Opportunities

Students are exposed to a broad range of opportunities during their Middle School years at Forsyth. Beginning in fifth grade, students are required to take technology, visual art, vocal music, and PE in addition to the core courses of daily humanities, science, mathematics, and conversational Spanish (French and Mandarin Chinese become options in seventh grade). Starting in sixth grade, they can play sports. In all middle school grades, students can participate in drama and clubs.

Beginning in seventh grade, in addition to core courses, students can focus on what they enjoy the most – whether that’s orchestra, PE, forensic science, creative writing, programming and digital design, visual art, or choir.

Each of these electives meets once a rotation. By the time they reach seventh and eighth grade, our students start to know what they like, and we give them the opportunities to explore their interests in greater depth.
  • Mentoring

Our Middle School students are paired with buddies from the Upper School and Lower School as part of our school-wide mentoring program. This special bonding allows students to learn from older students and to be role models to younger students.
  • Positive School Culture

Because middle school is a time when students are just discovering who they are and where they fit into the world, it’s important to have a positive culture. Our comprehensive character and guidance program teaches children to respect themselves and others and emphasizes positive behavior. We foster a community in which every child feels accepted and valued.
  • Service Learning

We believe it’s important for our Middle School students to reach beyond themselves. Our students have many opportunities to do service projects with younger and older students and be an active part of the larger community – meaningful time outside of the classroom.

Kind Words Shared With Us

“I just wanted to thank your Middle School girls soccer team once more for helping me pick up the trash that was left on the field and bench area after Tuesday’s game. I was really impressed and grateful that they would volunteer to take the time and do that without hesitation. They were one of the most polite, respectful, and well-mannered group of young ladies I have seen in a while, and you all are truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach such an awesome group of young people.” Clifton B., Thomasville Middle School Athletic Director

“My husband and I shared the food court with some of your Middle School students today. I just want to let you know how impressed we were with this group. They were so well behaved. They were not loud or hyper, they were engaged with one another, and they were genuinely enjoying themselves. What impress
ed me most was when I came to my table and started to put my tray down, the cane I was carrying for my husband, fell to the floor. At the table next to me sat five or six boys who all reacted, the closest one jumping up to pick up the cane. I was so touched. It is refreshing to see young people who still have manners. Well done teachers and parents!” - Belinda S.
