Furies Girls' Varsity Tennis Leads Reagan in Halted Match

Coach Harold Moore
The Fury Girls Varsity Tennis Team played a solid match on Monday against Reagan High School. The match was stopped because of thunderstorms in the area with our Fury girls leading a set up on each court. Nancy Sunthang led the furies at #1 singles and played a smart match mixing power and good defensive strategy to finish at 6-0, 4-0. Nancy served well and controlled the match with powerful groundstrokes on both wings. Fury #2 Sunna Maass put in another excellent performance showing off her ability to run down her opponent's wide balls on defense and to hit forehand winners to finish off rallies. Brynna Myers played with confidence in her second match of the season, after a rocky performance last Friday. She served well and moved her opponent around the court to set up winners using her big forehand at #3 singles.

Julia Kincaid was solid at #4 singles as she controlled her match with good groundstrokes from the baseline and a few solid volleys at net. Erika Choopani played better in this match than during her last outing. Her big forehand and backhands were more consistent and she served well. Louise King played solid baseline tennis to take her first set 6-3 at #6 singles before the match was stopped.

In exhibition matches Zalya Smith led 7-3, Addison Winter was tied at 4-4, Anna Merrit Madden and Molly Thompson won their doubles match 8-1.

Our next match is Friday, 8/20 against Bishop McGuinness at home.
