Dance Classes

Ballet/Tap: 3 years and 4 years
We will explore the fundamentals of movement and musicality, with an emphasis on starting to learn the basics of movement with music. Each class will have a “ballet” section, to work on the basics of dance to slower rhythms. The tap portion of class will focus on rhythm and sound, always excellent fun in loud shoes on a hardwood floor! Each week we will work as a group on simple stretch and flexibility techniques that will allow the children to start working as a unit on unison and phrasing.

Ballet Technique: 8 years and up
Our class time will be focused on developing the fundamentals on ballet technique and musicality. The class will emphasize flexibility and control as well as rehearsing choreography.

Pre-Pointe Class: 8 years and up
This class will be added as an additional 30 minutes following the Ballet Technique class listed above. Students in this class are required to enroll the Ballet Technique class as a prerequisite.

Ballet/Tap/Jazz: K-4th Grades
Our class time is split into three parts, ballet, tap and jazz. We will start at the barre for stretching and beginning technique, move across the floor for turns and leaps, then go to the center for choreography. Tap will continue to advance the skill level of all the students, working on more complicated rhythms and patterns in choreography. Jazz will start with floor work for core strength and flexibility, then move across the floor for skill development. This class is where we begin to work on a broader range of performance skills: stage presence, blocking, spacing and memorization. This class will have three numbers in the recital.

Ballet/Tap/Jazz: 6th-9th Grades
Ballet, tap and jazz, with an increased emphasis on ballet technique and musicality. The class will continue to emphasize flexibility and control as well as mastering an increasingly difficult level of skills. The students will be challenged, but they will be able to see and understand how they are progressing in style and dance vocabulary. They will also perform three numbers in the recital, with more difficult music and phrasing.
