Two FCDS Singers Chosen for Elite NC High School Honors Chorus

Congratulations to senior Chris Bannigan and freshman Jack Wall for being selected to the North Carolina Music Educators’ Association High School Honors Chorus.

“[Chris and Jack] are in the top 25 singers of the 1000-plus students who submitted video auditions in September,” chorus director Terry Hicks said. “There are probably fewer than a dozen FCDS students who have been selected over the 50 years. We have had a total of five selected over the past six years. I’m proud of that.”

Students from across the state auditioned and only 25 were chosen from each voice part (Soprano 1 and 2, Alto 1 and 2, Tenor 1 and 2, and Bass 1 and 2.) The resulting choir of 200 elite singers worked with Dr. Julie Yu, professor of music and co-director of choral studies at Kansas State University where she oversees and conducts the undergraduate choral ensembles and the masters in music choral program, over the course of a weekend and performed at the Benton Convention Center on Sunday, November 7.

“The two days of rehearsal concluded in an awesome and stirring performance,” said Mr. Hicks. “I couldn’t be prouder of these students!”
