Fury Boys’ Cross Country Wins Back-to-Back State Championships

Congratulations to the boys’ varsity cross country team for winning its second NCISAA 3A state championship in a row! This is the first time in FCDS history that a boys’ cross country team has repeated in consecutive years.

The team scored the victory at WakeMed Park in Cary, finishing with 64 points - an impressive 26 points ahead of the second-place team. The state win was led by sophomore George Lawson’s first-place finish with a time of 15:51, followed closely by fellow sophomore John Templeton’s second-place finish at 15:54. With this finish, George became the first male individual cross country champion in school history. Finishing out the Furies top seven finishers were juniors Grant Faraci (16th place, 17:26) and Logan Hammon (22nd, 17:52), and sophomores Will Tilley (23rd, 17:58), Dylan Robinson (24th, 18:03), and Nate Faraci (43rd, 18:51).

Prior to winning states, the boys won their 12th consecutive conference championship at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville. This year’s team was one of the youngest ever, with only one senior boy. The top 14 team members will return next season.

“The boys’ team is riding high right now,” said Head Coach Joe Scott. “Though relatively young, these guys compete like seasoned veterans. Coming in as the favorites this season, they never seemed complacent or arrogant. They knew that only consistent hard work would give them the opportunity to compete for championships. I think they will come back very hungry next fall.”
