  • Our Mission

The Forsyth Country Day School Parents' Association supports the school's academic, development, fine arts, performing arts, social, and athletic objectives by encouraging volunteerism, raising and disbursing funds, promoting communication within the school, and conducting events that increase school spirit and camaraderie.
  • Our History

Since 1982, the Parents' Association at Forsyth Country Day School has made significant contributions to the school's programs and facilities. Every parent or guardian at FCDS is a member of the Parents' Association. Our success as a Parents' Association is dependent on parent volunteers who give unselfishly of their time and energy in order to make our school great. The Parents' Association Board is comprised of six elected officers (President, Lower School Vice-President, Middle School Vice-President, Upper School Vice-President, Executive Secretary, and Treasurer), 15 Parent Representatives from each grade (Junior Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12), and three division secretaries (one from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools). This Board has voting authority for any Parents' Association decisions.

All parents are invited to attend Parents' Association business meetings which are conducted periodically throughout the school year.
  • "Fun" Raisers

The third important goal of the Parents' Association is to plan and implement various fun raising events throughout the school year that will increase school spirit and camaraderie. Parents, grandparents, alumni, students, prospective new parents/students, and the community are often included in these events. Past fun raising events have included:

    • Wonderful Wednesdays
    • All School Tailgate
    • Faculty & Staff Appreciation Luncheon
    • Family Carnival
    • Sports Recognition Events
    • Grandparents' Day Breakfast
    • Auction
    • Fine Arts Program
    • Guest Speakers
    • Storytelling Festival

  • All School Tailgate

This is the Parents’ Association signature “fun” raiser, held in the early fall of each year.  The entire school is invited to attend this event which is held on a Friday evening at school. Dinner and fun family activities are provided free of charge. This committee requires work over the summer to plan and attendance on the day of the event.
  • Book Fair

This committee works with the Librarians to execute the annual book fair, which is typically held for a week in November. In 2018, FCDS will work with Bookmarks for the first time to run the book fair! We are excited to partner with this local non-profit. This committee coordinates parent volunteers to staff the book fair for all hours it is open for sales for the week, assists with set up and clean-up, and coordinates snacks for volunteers. This is a large annual fundraiser for the library and the time commitment is several hours in the fall to plan and working during the fair in November.
  • Box Tops/Everyday Purchases Fundraiser

The PA collects funds from various fundraisers sponsored by companies who donate based on parent purchases. This committee will promote the ways parents can support the PA through their everyday purchases (Amazon Smile, Harris Teeter VIC Card, etc.). This committee will also run the school’s Box Tops program in which students turn in box tops they have collected from grocery items. The committee will host contests in both the fall and spring semesters with prizes for the homerooms in each division who collect the most box tops. The time commitment for this committee is throughout the school year but is largely self-scheduled.
  • Do or Dye

This event is held annually for all US students in the spring before the start of final exams. It is a fun color run with refreshments served at the end. This committee is responsible for planning and executing the event. The time commitment is a few hours in the spring.
  • Faculty & Staff Appreciation Luncheon

This committee plans and coordinates a luncheon at school to honor our dedicated faculty and staff for all they do for our children. The luncheon is typically held during one of the spring conference days. The time commitment for this committee will be a few hours in the spring to plan the event and attendance on the day of the luncheon.
  • Grade Representatives

Grade Reps serve as the representative for all the parents of their assigned grade. These volunteers attend monthly meetings with the division director, PA President and President-elect, and various other school employees monthly to discuss school and division specific upcoming events, any upcoming changes or areas of concern, and other topics as they arise. Grade reps are also responsible for communicating all pertinent information to all parents in their grades and assisting in recruiting parent volunteers for various functions as necessary. The division reps and directors determine the best time for the monthly meetings amongst themselves. The meetings typically last approximately 1.5 hours each month.
  • Graduation (Juniors)

This committee is responsible for hosting the reception for the Senior Class and their families immediately following graduation. This involves ordering food and drink, setup, serving, and cleanup. Time commitment is a few hours to plan and execute in May.
  • Graduations (Seniors)

The last day of school for seniors is a fun day on campus filled with outdoor games and activities. This committee is responsible for planning the activities and refreshments.  This is a great way for parents to be involved in end of school celebrations. The time commitment is a few hours the spring to plan and execute the event.
  • Lower School Classroom Parent

The Classroom parent is for Lower School classes. These parents assist the teachers in planning and executing holiday parties, end of year celebrations, field trip volunteers, and other needs as they arise. The time commitment varies throughout the year.
  • Lower School Family Valentines Celebration

This committee will work with LS staff to plan and execute snacks, games, dancing, and other activities for LS families. The event is generally held on a Sunday afternoon at school around Valentines Day. The time commitment will be to plan the event in Jan/Feb. and attendance at the event to execute.
  • Lower School Field Day

This is a much-anticipated day of fun for all Lower School children. This event is held on the Friday before Memorial Day and the committee is responsible for coordinating parent volunteers to run the Field Day stations, order a pizza lunch and drinks for the children to eat after the games are complete, and working with the Lower School PE teacher to plan and execute games and water slides. Working on this committee will require a spring time commitment as well as attendance on Field Day.
  • Lower School Grandparents’ Day

This special day is a long-standing tradition at FCDS. It will be held on 12/14/18 in the CAC. This is a day in which Lower School children show off their musical talents through their performance which honors grandparents and families. The committee is responsible for coordinating a breakfast that is served in the MS cafeteria prior to the performance, as well as decorating the performance area in a holiday theme. The time commitment will be in November and December 2018.
  • Middle School End of Year Celebration

This committee works with MS staff to plan and execute an afternoon of games and activities held on campus to celebrate the end of the school year.  Time commitment is a few hours in April and May to plan the event and attendance at the celebration.
  • Middle School Student Social

This committee will plan and execute 3 social activities for MS students. One will be held in the fall, shortly after the start of school, as a Back to School celebration. One will be the MS Dance, which will be held in the winter of 2019, and the final will be held on the last day of school after eighth grade graduation. The time commitment will be several hours throughout the year to work with MS staff and recruit parent volunteers as necessary.
  • Music on the Lawn

Another signature “fun” raiser, this event happens in the fall, usually the first week of school, and again in the spring. This committee is responsible for coordinating food trucks and live musical entertainment for the event. The time requirement for this committee will be a few hours over the summer to plan the fall event, and a few hours again in winter to plan the spring event, as well as attendance at both events.
  • New Family Connections/Parent Ambassadors

This committee is the official welcoming committee for our newly enrolled families.  Volunteers on this committee will serve as Parent Ambassadors to the new family assigned to them. They will work with the new family throughout the year to answer questions that may arise and invite them to school functions. This is a great way to help new families feel engaged and continue to foster our strong school community. The time commitment is relatively low and very flexible. We need lots of families to serve in this role!
  • Parent Social

This committee will plan and execute an all-school parent social to be held in the fall of 2018. Time commitment will be a few hours to plan the event as well as attendance at the event.
  • Storytelling Festival

The Storytelling Festival is usually held in the fall of the school year. This committee works with the Librarians to host an evening event for families to come to the library and listen to stories from the keynote speaker.  A small reception is hosted afterwards.  The time commitment is a few hours of planning and to attend the event.
  • Wonderful Wednesday

Each grade has a Wonderful Wednesday Coordinator who is responsible for planning a day of food and treats for the division’s faculty and staff as a thank you for their service to our students. The coordinator is responsible for organizing a sign-up so parents can contribute food/drinks/treats for the day, and set up and clean up of the donated items.  Each grade is responsible for Wonderful Wednesday twice per year – once in fall semester and once in spring semester.
