Yasmin Horner Named Jefferson Scholar


Senior Yasmin Horner was named a 2019 Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia.

The Jefferson Scholarshipa full merit scholarship to the University of Virginia valued at more than $280,000is one of the most prestigious and highly competitive scholarships in the country. The scholarship’s goal is to serve UVA by “identifying, attracting, and nurturing individuals of extraordinary intellectual range and depth who possess the highest concomitant qualities of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship.”

Scholars receive not only four full years of tuition, but a sizeable annual stipend to cover all expenses as well as extensive enrichment opportunities.

“Yasmin is an impressive leader who is sharp, motivated, and sees ways to maximize her impact on her community,” said Head of School Gardner Barrier. The senior has spent her final year at FCDS building a county-wide youth leadership program that addresses food insecurity and is helping to build important infrastructure at FCDS. “Yasmin is focused on the people around her, and I’m grateful for her impact on Forsyth Country Day,” Mr. Barrier continued. “I know that Charlottesville is about to add a tremendous community member.”
