Furies Tame the Lions 12-7

Forsyth Country Day School Furies tamed the Covenant Day School Lions in their season opener. The Furies won 12-7 over the Lions in a back and forth game early on in the contest.  After halftime the Furies pulled away to a double digit lead putting together a string of strong defensive stops into transitions and goals on the offensive end of the field. Max Michalek, Kyle Sudler and Jacques Hall each performed lift checks to dislodge the ball from the Lions.  In each series, the Furies broke out into fast breaks leading to Tommy Aguilar, Mason Ickes, Andre Smith and Carver Hiatt each scoring off the defensive takeaways. Tommy Aguilar kicked off another run with a blast off the goalie’s helmet for a goal totaling three goals on the day. The Furies bench went wild and momentum rolled into the next face-off with Kain Biggers scoring one of his three cutting goals on the Lions. Harry Thomas tallied three assists on the day and Mason Ickes scored four goals weaving through lanes in the Lion’s defense.  Noble Smith had nine saves and numerous clears. Kyle Sudler and John Peterson each had two takeaways and Mitchell Anderson had one takeaway.

The Furies did well introducing one eighth grader and six upper school Brotherhood members playing their first varsity game today.  The coaching staff was very happy in the team’s perseverance in competing against their opponent and fighting through the team’s own mistakes to come out on top.  This was a very good tune-up game for what’s ahead. The Furies will play St. David’s Friday, March 8th at 6:00pm - Smith Field on the campus of Forsyth Country Day School.
