Congratulations to the FCDS team for placing third in the MathCounts competition and to the four middle school students who will move on to the state finals.
On Saturday, February 11, eleven middle school students competed in the MathCounts Chapter competition at Wake Forest University. Approximately 130 students from 18 schools in the region competed.
The FCDS MathCounts team was: Cara Freeman, Grayson Gerber, Maddox Harrell, Gabrielle Howard, Aadhya Palamaner, Kole Pemberton, Miller Pocock, Caitlyn Tan, Andy Wang, Matt Wang, and Melodi Yalcinkaya.
The FCDS students had fun solving challenging problems during individual and team rounds. Caitlyn (team lead), Gabrielle, Miller, and Grayson worked together to contribute during the team round. Gabrielle and Maddox bravely went head to head with other top students during the Countdown round. The excitement built as students had to quickly and accurately solve problems, then buzz in their answers - all while 200 people watched from the audience!
The team of Grayson Gerber, Gabrielle Howard, Miller Pocock, and Caitlyn Tan will go on to represent FCDS at the state finals at the North Carolina School of Science and Math on March 17.
“We’re proud of all of the students for all of their hard work and dedication,” said MathCounts Coach Charlotte Phillips.
