FCDS Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to FCDS senior Asmithaa Vinukonda for being named a National Merit Scholarship Winner!

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the winners of approximately 7,140 National Merit Scholarships from more than 15,000 distinguished finalists. Winners are awarded $2,500 in scholarships.

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

“It's no surprise Asmithaa was selected for the National Merit Scholarship. Asmithaa is a model student and community member,” said Associate Director of College Counseling RJ Hooker. “She’s a polymath. She’s a brilliant journalist. She’s a moving speaker. She’s a moral compass for her friends. She’s an aspiring novelist. More than anything, Asmithaa is fascinated by the world’s complexities and is committed to making lasting change in the lives of others."

We’re very proud of Asmithaa for this incredible accomplishment!
