FCDS Names Six to Fury Athletic Hall of Fame

Congratulations to the Fury Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Inductees!

They are: Chris Rhyne ’06, Brey Dorset Johnson ’09, Kathleen Baker ’15, Tanner Beason ’15, Lindsey Ickes ’18, and Ben Mitchell ’18. These accomplished athletes will officially be inducted in a ceremony on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, in the Childress Activities Center.

Chris Rhyne ’06

• Lead the boys’ varsity tennis team to state championships in 2004, 2005, 2006
• Two-time All-American tennis player
• Four-time All-State tennis player
• Four-time All-Conference tennis player
• Ranked among the top 75 national tennis recruits
• Captain at Furman University, leading multiple Southern Conference championship teams

Brey Dorsett Johnson ’09

• 2009 PTAC 3A Player of the Year in NCISAA All-State Basketball Award
• Two-time All-Conference basketball in 2008,2009
• Winston-Salem Journal All-Northwest Girls’ Basketball Team
• All-State softball 2009
• Two-time softball MVP
• Played basketball at UNC-G and Johnson C. Smith University
• 2012-2013 All-CIAA basketball selection
• Current professional basketball player in Europe/Canada

Kathleen Baker ’15

• Two-time high school All-American 
• Two-time Scholastic High School All-American 
• Five-time FCDS State Champion
• Most accomplished female swimmer in North Carolina history
• NCAA Swimmer of the Year
• Five-time American record holder
• Five-time USA Swimming National Champion
• Two-time world record holder in 100 m backstroke and 400 m medley relay
• Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Rio Olympics 

Tanner Beason ’15

• Two-year starter at FCDS 
• Four-year starter on Stanford University soccer team
• Three-time national champion at Stanford
• Two-time All-American at Stanford
• Two-time All PAC-12 Selection
• First defender ever to win PAC-12 Player of the Year
• Twelfth overall draft pick in 2020 Major League Soccer Draft
• Current member of the MLS Team San Jose Earthquakes 

Lindsey Ickes ’18

• Five-time XC PACIS All-Conference
• Two-time XC PACIS Individual Champion
• Five-time XC Individual All-State Recognition
• Individual XC State Champion
• Led FCDS to four track & field PACIC Conference Championships
• Three individual track & field All-Conference finishes
• Individual track & field state champion in 1600 m, 3200 m
• Hold three records at High Point University
• Big South Outdoor 10,000 Meter Champion 2023
• Big South Indoor 5000 Meter Champion 2023
• Big South XC Championships Winner 2022

Ben Mitchell ’18

• Five-time XC All-PACIS Conference
