The Fine Arts Department at FCDS encompasses a comprehensive arts curriculum from Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade. In the Lower School, specialists provide experiences in the visual arts, singing, instrumental music, and movement. Our Middle and Upper schools feature award-winning programs in visual arts, chorus, orchestra, and band. We also offer experiences in drama and musicals in all three school divisions.
At FCDS, we have studied the meta-analyses that prove that the arts can have a significant impact in academic settings by building cognitive skills as well as building a sense of community and developing individual self-esteem. Directed by internationally known author and consultant Dr. Rebecca Shore, our arts curriculum is committed to continuing to reflect the most current findings in this area. FCDS teachers understand that the arts provide opportunities for self-expression and an appreciation of the local and global communities in ways that are more universal and more intensely personal that any other kind of human communication. At FCDS, we understand that the arts are an indispensable tool necessary for nurturing developing minds.
FCDS also houses a Community School of the Arts, which conveniently offers a wide array of arts instruction to our own students as well as the general public. Course offerings include music, visual arts, drama, and dance.
