7 FCDS Students Earn Awards at Math Contests

Twenty-four Forsyth Country Day students competed in state math contests yesterday at Appalachian State University. There was a Level 1 (Algebra I) and a Comprehensive contest. Students took multiple choice exams followed by free response tiebreaker problems. They also enjoyed lunch on campus and heard a math talk.

There were 18 schools from the region competing in the Level 1 (Algebra I) contest. The top 20 students will progress to the State Finals at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in early May. Three FCDS students placed:

4th: Max Drucker
17th: Landon Greenwood
18th: Elliot Sullivan

There were nine schools from the region competing in the Comprehensive contest. The top eight students will progress to the State Finals at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in late April. Four FCDS students placed:

1st: Mindy Li
2nd: Kelly Chen
4th: Kevin Wang
5th: Gary Yu

FCDS also had the highest school team score out of the nine schools in the Comprehensive category.

Mrs. Charlotte Phillips deserves a special thanks for all of her hard work preparing our students for these competitions.

We are so proud of all the students who competed yesterday!
