Determined Furies defeat NRCS 5-4
Our Fury Boys Tennis Team won the mental battle today as they recorded
a 5-4 victory against North Raleigh Christian Academy. Tri-Team
Captain Rohan Patel was the first to overcome early nervousness in a
tight first set as he found his range on his lefty serve and forehand.
Following a tight first set, he raised his game to close out his match
6-4, 6-2. Hank Williams fought from the beginning to the end of his
match to control his court. The 7th grader did an outstanding job in
cutting down on unforced errors against a very athletic opponent and
closed out his match 7-5, 7-5. Ben Williams played the key points with
composure in a match where every game went to deuce -ad. Playing
against a much older opponent, Ben used his mental strength to control
unforced errors on key points to record a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory. Spencer
Muller pulled that force from deep within a competitor as his singles
match became the choice of the crowd. As the other teams' group of
about eight kids, gathered on the fence behind him and loudly cheered
for their teammate, Spencer roared to a 10-3 decision in his 3rd set
tiebreaker with the help of his teammates cheering for him. Finally,
with the match on the line, Rohan and Spencer out-willed and
out-played a determined duo as they walked off the court with a 8-3
victory in hand. Rohan took control of this match with big serves and
forehands while Spencer put away so timely volleys.
