Furies Kick Off Season with a Strong Start

The 2018 version of Furies’ Boys Tennis opened the season today with a 9-0 victory over Calvary Baptist. Playing in windy and cold conditions, the Furies mostly held their concentration and composure as we swept all six singles matches against a team of players who refused to give up. Spencer Muller #4 and Duncan Hart #5, worked through a period of nervous play as they fought hard, but felt the momentum of the match was getting away from them. They both overcame this shift by moving their feet better and keeping the ball in play with less aggression.
Rohan Patel played as if he enjoyed his parents being there to watch his match. Rohan kept command of his court throughout the match with good control of his powerful forehand and some gutsy hustle on short balls. Ben Williams maintained the upper hand on his court with solid play on his ground strokes and solid serving as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Hank Williams fought through the mental issues associated with playing under windy conditions with an opponent who gets a lot of balls back. Hank managed to pull back on his desire to hit the lines with power and used better footwork to close out his first varsity match as a 7th grader. Nick Peters worked through a highly charged match at #1 singles and recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
In doubles, Patel and Muller cruised to an easy victory as did Ben Williams and Aran Parnia. Peters and Hank Williams came from behind to take the #1 doubles court to close out the match.
