Furies Win More Than Just a Game over GDS

We had a full schedule of activities this past week, including spirit week to enjoy with various fun outfits to wear, guest speaker, culminating into a Friday pep rally and basketball game against our conference rival, GDS. The guys were extremely excited to play the game. The team started out a little sluggish, made strides in the second quarter and finally pulled away in the third quarter. The team could smell victory and was prepared to relish a feeling of redemption for a loss to this team during our first meeting. However, nothing could completely prepare us all for what we would witness in the closing minutes of the game.   The Furies were going through an end of game rotation with all players contributed to the team's success. Starting point guard, David Gray was in-line to go in the game next but he spoke up to make sure teammate, Jack Sweeney was in-line to go in the game as well. Jack fought through injuries all season and went into the game and fought for a great rebound and one partial steal at one point. GDS came down and scored after a long drought of scoring and the Furies pushed the ball up the court to answer back right away. The team came down the court and teammates yelled, look for Sweeney. Short time on the clock, everyone on the bench was standing, the 6th grade Girls' basketball team was on the sideline yelling as they prepared to play right after this game. Preston Cain received a pass and immediately passed to Jack Sweeney, who stepped in and swished a beautiful 15 foot jumper that MJ, himself, would have been proud to shoot. The bench went crazy, the 6th grade Girls' basketball team screamed uncontrollably, and the Fury stands filled with parents and grandparents erupted in a thunderous ovation. It was absolutely awesome! The ball went back down the court and the Furies defended the Bengals away from the goal and the buzzer sounded. Then a sight to behold occurred. The Fury team stormed the court to jump and pile onto Jack Sweeney to congratulate him for scoring his first basket of the season. The team continued to chant, "Jack Sweeney", all the way back to the Fireplace room for the team wrap-up meeting.

It was a WONDERFUL Day!

I'm extremely proud of our young boys concerning the sportsmanship and teamwork exhibited in our community.

Great job, 6th Grade Boys' Basketball team.

Best regards,
