FCDS Spanish Students Earn National Recognition for Excellent Performance

Congratulations to the Spanish III and Honors Spanish IV students from Forsyth Country Day School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2020 National Spanish Examinations.

Students from Forsyth Country Day School earned a total of six silver and three bronze medals along with twelve honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 140,000 students registered in 2020.”

The award recipients are:

Silver Medal Recipients: Patrick McBride, Carter Sullivan, Emmie Cawood, Joshua Howard, Katherine Li, and Sophie Scherer

Bronze Medal Recipients: Carolina Rocha Lima, Sarah Clegg, and Sonya McNatt

Honorary Recipients: Ellen Buck, Jack Hutcherson, Charlotte Jennings, Shelby Caine, Aidan Baydush, Katherine Claybrook, Eric Kelly, Saanvi Pawa, Ansley Reid, James Snyder, Elliot Sullivan, and Giulia Duarte

Students from Forsyth Country Day School have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers, Rachel Wrenn and Elizabeth Ottenjohn. 
 
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year throughout the country in grades 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
