FCDS Announces Baccalaureate and Graduation Speakers


FCDS is pleased is announce that Brian J. Cook, Pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, will speak at its 2018 Baccalaureate on May 31, and that John A. Allison, IV, Retired Chairman and CEO of BB&T, Retired President and CEO of Cato, and alumni parent, will speak at its 2018 Commencement on June 1.
 
Father Brian Cook – Pastor, St. Leo the Great Catholic Church
 
Father Cook is the current pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem. He is from the Washington, D.C. area, where he was ordained a priest. During his early days as a priest, he worked with Mother Teresa in Washington. He eventually moved to North Carolina in 2002, becoming the pastor of Holy Family. In 2007, he became pastor of St. Leo Church.
 
Since moving to North Carolina in 2002, Cook has brought a special brand of compassion via outreach and partnership with organizations such as Catholic Charities and Samaritan Ministries.
 
Mr. John Allison – Retired Chairman and CEO of BB&T and Retired President and CEO of the Cato Institute
 
John Allison is the former CEO and president of the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C. Allison held a number of leadership positions in BB&T Corp. from 1987 until his retirement in 2010. He now serves as a director at Moelis & Company.
 
Mr. Allison grew up outside Charlotte, N.C. and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in business administration. He received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business.
 
Currently, Mr. Allison is an Executive in Residence at the Wake Forest School of Business. He is also a member of the Cato Institute’s Board of Directors and Chairman of the Executive Advisory Council of the Cato Institute’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives. Additionally, he was recognized by the Harvard Business Review as one of the top 100 most successful CEOs in the world over the last decade.
 
John and his wife Betty have two alumni children: William ’09 and Sarah ’11.
