Fury Varsity Boys’ Tennis Falls at Charlotte Latin

If you asked Spencer Muller how he played today he might tell you not so good. If you had the pleasure of watching Spencer play today you might counter his statement with: “Spencer, you had one of your most terrific efforts of the season today. You hit your usual 6 to 10 ball rallies, positioned yourself to win lots of points that simply didn’t go your way.” Such was the fate of Fury tennis today as we positioned ourselves to win key points only to have our balls find the net or go just a little wide.
We have to give credit to Charlotte Latin as their boys were determined to do whatever it took to get that last ball over the net. Fury #1, Nick Peters finished the 2018 season hitting some of his best serves and forehands ever. Rohan Patel at #2 used his big forehand to set up point after point only to see a ton of his apparent winners come back. There was some satisfaction for him as he hit his “Senior Shot”, a running angled forehand from the edge of the 3rd court that landed into the deuce court on court 2 for a winner.
On court #3 Spencer and his opponent both moved each other around with long rallies. The score in this match says nothing about the quality of play as two human backboards battled for control of every point. Time and again Spencer did so much right but in the end didn’t finish off the point. Hank Williams at #4 played well in his third match back from a wrist injury while older brother Ben sought points with his big forehand and serves.
Duncan Hart had a terrific match as he led most of the way. Duncan won the first set and led most of the second but couldn’t hold on as his opponent capitalized on some untimely errors.
Congratulations guys on making the playoffs. I’m so proud of your efforts today.
Go Furies!!!
