Upper School Students Serve the Community

Advisor groups went to local organizations yesterday to help the community. Here are some reports:

The McBride and Harvey group went to the Second Harvest Food Bank and packed a total of 2,372 lbs. of food which is equivalent to 1,976 meals that will be picked up by partner agencies and distributed to families within the community.

The Trawinski and Sponholtz group went to Crossnore School & Children’s Home. They swept barns, weeded yards, painted signs, and bagged leaves for the morning. They also met some goats, pigs, llamas, and cows.

The Faulkner and Smith group asked Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful to send them to the place of highest need for clean-up. That place ended up being a wooded, creek area behind a business on the northwestern end of Reynolda Rd where they hauled a large amount of trash.

The Perry and Holloway group had a fabulous visit to Cook Elementary. The FCDS students loved it and it was very clear that the folks at Cook were very appreciative. They helped kindergarten classes with writing, art, and music. The FCDS students asked for other ways to support Cook during their debrief session with Principal Dr. Wilkins.

The Howell and Angell group went the SECU Family House where they baked cookies, cleaned indoors and outdoors, and made door hangers for residents.

Joe Trotter’s group helped with grounds work – laying mulch and pulling weeds – at Kaleideum North. The museum was very thankful since they have a very limited staff to maintain their grounds.

We are proud of all FCDS students for serving their community.
