  • Andy Clifton - Director of Advancement


    Andy attended FCDS from kindergarten through eighth grade. While earning his master’s degree in teaching from Wake Forest, he coached at Forsyth, where he later joined the staff full-time from 2006 to 2016. Andy was a biology teacher and cross-country coach and served in roles as varied as founder and teacher of Seminar in Sustainability, site director of an on-site teacher training program devoted to helping all kids learn, and co-chair of the Accreditation Council. Since 2016, Andy has worked in the corporate world at AccuMed and Inmar. Andy and his wife Meredith have two daughters: Caroline (FCDS ’23) and Anna.
  • Alexandra Davidson-Palmer - Upper School Counselor


    Originally from Durham, N.C., Alexandra graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to earn a master’s degree in psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She recently graduated with both master’s and educational specialist degrees in counseling from UNC-Greensboro. She is both a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the state of North Carolina. At Wake Forest, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, a national academic honor society. At Wake Forest and George Mason, she was a member of Psi Chi, the psychology honors society. At UNC-Greensboro, she was a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the counseling honors society. Before returning to graduate school to train in counseling, she worked at Hill Learning Center in Durham. She has worked with students from pre-K to college seniors.
  • Ashley Doughton - Preschool Teacher


    Ashley has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in education from the University of South Carolina. She also has M.A.T. in elementary education from Salem College. Ashley taught second grade before becoming a stay at home mom. During that time she volunteered at her children's schools serving as PTSA President and was named Volunteer of the Year. She’s also been lead teacher at Mount Tabor UMC Preschool. Ashley and her husband Tommy have four children: Sam, Grace, Laura, and James.
     
  • Carey French - Second Grade Teacher

     
    Carey earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Concord College. After college, she began her teaching career in Virginia, where she taught second and third grade while earning her master’s degree as a reading specialist from Marshall University. Carey and her family relocated to Lewisville, N.C., where she received her Early Childhood Certificate from Forsyth Technical College and earning the opportunity to teach as an adjunct instructor at Forsyth Tech. During her 11 years in charter schools, Carey was chosen as a representative on the Leadership Team, was named Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Triad (Schoolzen Contest), received the Golden Apple Award, led numerous professional development trainings for staff, presented at the NC Charter Schools Conference, and received Orton-Gillingham and Fundations Wilson Training. At Moore Magnet, she received the EDU Star award, was named Teacher of the Year, and was one of the top three candidates for WS/FCS Teacher of the Year. Carey and her husband, Kenny, have three children: Tyler, Bryson, and Kiersten.
  • Lauren Frye - Architect in Residence


    Born in Rochester, N.Y., Lauren moved to Winston-Salem when she was in second grade. She received her bachelor’s degree in architecture at Princeton University in 2006 and her MArch from The University of Virginia in 2009. Lauren is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Licensed Architect (2013). She has practiced architecture at Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce Architects from 2009 to the present with a focus on sustainable design and adaptive reuse projects including the award-winning Bailey Power Plant in downtown Winston-Salem. She and her husband Danny have two children: Matthew and Christopher.
  • Soni Fulp - Preschool Assistant


    Soni has a bachelor’s degree in history from Salem College. She worked for IBM in Raleigh before moving to Winston-Salem to raise her family. Soni started working for Knollwood Baptist Church Preschool when her own young children attended school there. She worked at Knollwood for eight years as a co-lead teacher for children ages infant to 2. Soni and her husband Errin have three children: Jake, Martin, and Ehren.

  • Tim Harper - Language Development Specialist


    Originally from Catawba, N.C, Tim graduated from Milligan College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a specialization in early childhood development. He also played on the men's basketball team. Tim has over seven years of experience teaching students with exceptionalities both in public and private school settings. He began his career in education at Mariposa School for Children with Autism in Cary, N.C. where he taught communication skills and verbal conversation.
  • Kari Hill - Preschool Assistant


    Kari attended the College of William and Mary and has lived in Winston-Salem for more than 20 years. She taught at New Philadelphia Moravian Preschool for 15 years, including five years as art and science specialist. She has two grown children and lives with her husband Kevin.
  • Hannah Levering - Preschool Assistant


    Originally from Gastonia, N.C., Hannah attended Impact University in Clemmons and has an associate’s degree in theology with a certificate in counseling. She is pursuing a degree in early childhood education at Forsyth Tech. She has worked at FCDS in the aftercare program for three years and substituted for lead and assistant teachers in the preschool.
  • Tony Meyers - Upper School Math Teacher

     
    Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Tony has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Lebanon Valley College and a master’s degree in coaching education from Ohio University. Tony is a lifelong educator and coach. He has taught in private, public, and Catholic schools up and down the east coast and has his Level II teaching certificate from Pennsylvania. He has coached soccer at Davidson College, was a head coach at McCallie and Calverton Schools and was named State Coach of the Year in 2010 for Tennessee. Tony is married to his wife Carol.
  • Anna Naples - JAC Tutor


    Anna has a bachelor’s degree in intercultural studies from North Greenville University. She has taught English as a second language for two years, including a year in China and Thailand.
     
  • Katheryn Northington - Community Connections Coordinator


    Raised in Greensboro, N.C., Katheryn Northington earned her MBA in finance from UNC-Charlotte and her bachelor’s degree in math education from North Carolina State University. Katheryn began her career as a high school math teacher and, after a stint in the investment industry, has served nonprofits in varying capacities for more than 18 years. Currently self-employed as a nonprofit strategist, Katheryn consults with nonprofits to effectively align the board, staff, and community stakeholders behind a clear and relevant vision and strategy. Katheryn joins FCDS on a part-time basis to grow community relationships in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors and develop opportunities for students to engage therein. She currently serves as board chair of The Crossnore School & Children’s Home. After nearly 20 years in Charlotte, N.C., Katheryn and her husband, Otis, relocated to Winston-Salem in 2013, where they are raising their two children, Slate (FCDS ’21) and James.

  • Moriah Rhyne - Language Development Specialist


    2010 alumna of FCDS, Moriah attended UNC-Wilmington and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education. Her career started in Wilmington, where she was trained in Wilson’s Fundations, Singapore Math, and UChicago Impact (step). She has five years of experience in the classroom. Moriah’s maternal side of the family is deaf, and she will be teaching an ASL course.
  • Patrick Schell - Lower School Music/Arts Enrichment Coordinator


    Patrick graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in music education. Patrick has taught high school and middle school chorus in Catawba County and in WS/FCS. While teaching at Meadowlark Middle school, he grew the choral program and directed ensembles to earn top marks at state and regional choral festivals. Along with teaching, he has performed with numerous ensembles since arriving in North Carolina, including the Winston-Salem Symphony, Piedmont Opera, Bel Canto Company, and other ensembles around the state. He is a member of ACDA, NCMEA, NAfME, Chorus America, A Cappella Education Association, and has Level II Orff certification.
  • Richard Sisley - Upper School Test Prep


    Richard has a bachelor’s degree from UCLA, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with highest honors, and a master’s degree from California State University Northridge. He has 50 years of teaching experience at the high school and college levels and is certified by the national board in mathematics.
     
  • Madeline Stambaugh - Middle and Upper School Art Teacher


    Madeline received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and studio art from Wake Forest University in 2017 and will graduate with a master’s degree in art education from Boston University in 2021. She has spent the past two years teaching art at the Lower School level at Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, Connecticut and teaching youth art classes at The Greenwich Arts Society. During her years at Wake Forest, Madeline interned and volunteered with Arts For Life at Brenner Children's Hospital. In addition to teaching, Madeline is an avid marathon runner and will be assisting with Cross Country and Track & Field.
  • Jayme Stuart - Language Development Specialist, Speech Pathologist


    Born and raised in Charlotte, N.C, Jayme earned her bachelor’s degree in specific learning disabilities and her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Appalachian State University. She worked as a special education teacher in a resource setting in elementary and middle schools and as a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom for students with autism. She also taught at Triad Academy and completed AOGPE Associate-level coursework. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA and is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of North Carolina. Jayme’s husband Andrew attended FCDS for lower and middle school. They have three children who all attend FCDS: Jackson (FCDS ’30), Nora (FCDS ’33), and Adam (FCDS ’35).
  • Isabel Wiest - Preschool & Lower School Spanish


    Isabel earned her associate’s degree in early childhood education in Cali, Colombia. She is attending Gardner Webb University pursuing her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She completed her student teaching in preschool, elementary, and special education in her native Colombia and has more than six years of experience working as a dual immersion teaching assistant. In 2017, she was chosen Teacher Assistant of the Year. Madeline and her spouse have two adorable chocolate lab retrievers.
