Each summer, the Johnson Academic Center at Forsyth Country Day School features one of the most exciting academic development summer programs in the Winston-Salem area. This summer opportunity is designed to teach, develop, and enhance each participant's learning.

  • Math Skills

    This course is designed for rising 5th through rising 7th graders to review basic skills. These skills include: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals, solving inequalities, and estimation, basic calculator skills, solving word problems, identifying prime numbers, understanding probability, using measurements, solving mental math problems, and many other math skills that will help to improve their basic understanding of mathematics.

  • Pre-Algebra

    The purpose of this course is to prepare students with strong foundational skills and begin to introduce algebraic problem-solving. Students will review basic math skills and strive for mastery of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Students will continue working with graphs, exponential and scientific notation, and multiplying using powers of ten.

  • Algebra I

    The Johnson Academic Center offers a jumpstart to the specific math courses that students are scheduled to take in the fall. These classes will cover basic skills to prepare students as well as familiarize them with mathematical vocabulary. These classes are not graded, and they are presented so students will have some exposure to the material before actually participating in the course.

    For rising Algebra I students, 45-minutes/one-on-one, $75 per session; Offered July 8-11, July 15-18, July 22-25, July 29-Aug 1
  • Geometry

    The Johnson Academic Center offers a jumpstart to the specific math courses that students are scheduled to take in the fall.     This course is designed to review basic algebraic concepts including an overview of exponents, polynomials, a review of factoring, rational expressions, negative and rational exponents, and a review of radicals.

  • Precalculus

    Students will review and solidify key skills from Algebra II that will be needed moving forward into Pre-Calculus. Students will be introduced to the initial material taught in Pre-Calculus and provided with a good foundation to start the school year.

  • ACT Prep

    This four-session (8 total hours) seminar will provide a comprehensive introduction to each ACT subsection. In addition to content review and practice, students will learn time management strategies, how to overcome test anxiety, strategic guessing, the psychology of standardized tests, and dynamic study habits.

    Sessions are 2 hours each and all materials are provided. Small-Group class. 10th-12th graders, Offered the week of July 8-11, Monday-Thursday from 1:00-3:00 p.m.; $456 per student
  • SAT Prep
