  • Language Development

    The Language Development program provides an individualized, multidisciplinary, diagnostic-prescriptive program designed to meet the specific needs of each student with a diagnosed learning disability and/or attention deficit disorder. Through a visual, auditory and kinesthetic approach to language, the student’s strongest channels of learning are stimulated. The Language Development program centers on the remediation of language skill deficits in order to help the student progress in the classroom. The focus of these sessions will be on the remediation of the student’s particular weaknesses.

  • Study Skills

    Acquisition of study skills is vitally important for students to experience success. In this course, students will learn skills for organization, note-taking, time management, and test preparation strategies.

  • Subject Tutoring

    The JAC provides individual subject tutoring to FCDS students and students in the community in grades 2-12 geared to meet the needs of individual students.

  • Summer Reading

    Every summer the English department at FCDS assigns novels to be read in preparation for our fall classes. The JAC offers one-on-one work on these novels for our Middle and Upper School student body. The sessions will focus on helping students read the text and discuss the plot, characters, and general themes. Some reading of the text is required outside of the class time.

  • Writing Skills

    This course is offered to provide students with an opportunity to improve their writing skills. It covers methods of outlining and webbing that are effective for students in the Middle School. Students will write paragraphs and learn how to edit and rewrite an essay.

  • Jumpstart Algebra I

    The JAC offers a jumpstart to the specific math courses that students are scheduled to take in the fall. These classes will cover basic skills to prepare students, as well as familiarize them with mathematical vocabulary. These classes are not graded, and they are presented so students will have some exposure to the material before actually participating in the course.
    • 60 minutes /needs a minimum of 2 students for class to form.    
  • Jumpstart Geometry

    The JAC offers a jumpstart to the specific math courses that students are scheduled to take in the fall. These classes will cover basic skills to prepare students, as well as familiarize them with mathematical vocabulary. These classes are not graded, and they are presented so students will have some exposure to the material before actually participating in the course. 
    • 60 minutes /needs a minimum of 2 students for class to form.   
  • Jumpstart Algebra II

    Students will review and solidify key skills from Algebra I that will be needed moving forward into Algebra II. Students will be introduced to the initial material taught in Algebra II and provided with a good foundation to start the school year.

  • Jumpstart Pre-Calculus

    Students will review and solidify key skills from Algebra II that will be needed moving forward into Pre-Calculus. Students will be introduced to the initial material taught in Pre-Calculus and provided with a good foundation to start the school year.

  • Jumpstart Calculus

    The Calculus Jumpstart class will begin with a review of skills from Pre-Calculus to solidify key concepts that will be needed in Calculus. In addition to the review, students will be introduced to the initial material taught in Calculus to provide them with a good foundation to start the school year.

  • Math Skills

    The Math Skills course is designed for rising fifth through rising eighth graders, to review basic skills. These skills include: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, solving inequalities, estimation, basic calculator skills, solving word problems, identifying prime numbers, understanding probability, using measurements, solving mental math problems, and many other math skills that will help to improve their basic understanding of mathematics.

  • Singapore Math Skills

    The Singapore Math Skills course is designed for rising second through rising fourth graders, to review basic skills. These skills include: adding, subtracting, bar modeling and multiplying, and division facts as grade appropriate, regrouping and working with numbers to 1000 and many other math skills that will help to improve their basic understanding of mathematics.  
    • 30-45 minutes/one-on-one        
    • Rising 2th-4th Grade
  • Speech, Language, and Processing

    The speech, language, and processing program is offered to students who have been or would like to be assessed by a licensed speech language pathologist for deficits in articulation, fluency, language, processing, voice, and phonemic awareness. Lesson plans and session frequency are individualized and based on deficits or impairments reflected in each student’s clinical evaluation. Students will be directly involved in their own goal-setting to improve personal and academic communication skills. Speech/language evaluation and therapy services are provided by a nationally certified and state licensed clinician.
