Arts Enrichment

To encourage passion and discovery, FCDS Arts Enrichment allows students to participate in some of their favorite activities and grow their talents right on campus.
Forsyth Country Day School promotes the idea that a well-rounded education in arts, physical activity, and academics is an essential component of each student’s education. That's why we offer Arts Enrichment.

Arts Enrichment is open to everyone. We invite children who are homeschooled or attend other schools to enroll in our programs. Private music lessons are even available to adults in our community. We hope you will take advantage of these special enrichment offerings!

  • Suzuki Violin

Suzuki Violin Method was developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan and is music education that is modeled on the way students naturally learn language fluently at a young age. It is often called the “mother tongue method” and “talent education.” Dr. Suzuki believed that what is called “talent” is actually a product of environment and education. Parental involvement is key to the success of this approach, so parents will need to be available to participate. The emphasis in beginning lessons is on developing a good ear, good posture, and good rhythm. Reading music begins as soon as these components are in place and reliable. All students do learn the same basic repertoire which provides an opportunity for group playing experiences early in the process of learning to play. This class is taught by Corine Brouwer. Corine is a Suzuki trained violinist who is the Concertmaster of the Winston-Salem Symphony. She has extensive teaching experience in both Suzuki and traditional methods. She offers both individual and group instruction in violin.

For students rising K-4 for the class and private lessons. Pre-K eligible for private lessons.
  • Piano Pals

This class is taught by Margaret Wages, and is specifically for 4 year olds and kindergarten students. Piano Pals is a multi-faceted introduction to musical concepts, focusing on singing, movement, and exploring the piano.

Rooted in the belief that music is for everyone and the scientific findings that early exposure improves everything from attention span to reading skills to motor development, Piano Pals immerses children in the idea that music is simply a part of life, something we all can experience, enjoy, and create! All new students must start at Level I before progressing.
