Seniors Lead Fury Victory

Coach Harold Moore
WOW! Fury Tennis Captain Ben Williams and his senior cohorts, Max Trbonja and Lucas Rocha Lima helped contribute 4 of our 6 points in a thrilling win over Greensboro Day School today. The competition on every court was intense as our guys fought to bring home at least a share of the 2022 PTAC Conference Title, which we had not won since 2016. Ben and Max won both their singles and doubles matches. Lucas played steady tennis on court #6 to bring home his singles win.

About 90 fans were treated to amazing tennis, first with three excellent doubles matches followed by the six singles. On Court #1 Kendrick Lash and Hank Williams started out in full control only to be chased down and tied at 8-8 by Greensboro Day School's Carter and Warren McWhorter. This match was thrilling and featured every shot in tennis, huge serves, deft drop-shots and powerful groundstrokes that brought frequent cheers from the stands. Kendrick and Hank played smart tennis to take control of the tie breaker and won the match 9-8 (7-5). Ben and Max controlled their match from start to finish enroute to an 8-1 victory on doubles court #2. Alan Trbonja and Lucas Rocha Lima fought hard on doubles court #3 only to fall 8-3 to their GDS opponents.

Ben Williams brought home the first Fury singles' point with fine play on court #3 as he controlled his match from start to finish. His win was followed by wins on singles courts #5 and #6, as Max Trbonja and Lucas Rocha Lima, played smart steady tennis to close out their matches 6-1, 6-2. Alan Trbonja played a seasoned state ranked player and lost on court #4.

Kendrick Lash brought his A-game to the court today and dismantled last year's PTAC Player of the Year in a fine exhibition of junior tennis. Kendrick had lost to Carter three times in the last two years, but today, he raised his skill level at the right times and never let an ounce of doubt enter his mind as he powered his way to victory. He closed out the match 6-1, 6-0.

Hank Williams played an outstanding second set, after losing the first to force a third set tie breaker. Our fans were treated to tennis at a high level in this match on singles court #2 as both boys used power to force their wills. In the end, Hank just couldn't muster the necessary points for victory and fell (10-7) in the third set tie breaker.
