FCDS Senior Attends Highly Selective Summit in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations to FCDS senior Sophie Scherer for being selected as a Coolidge Senator!
The Coolidge Senators Program recognizes 100 top Coolidge Scholarship applicants who demonstrate exceptional academic accomplishments and show a special interest in Calvin Coolidge.
Coolidge Senators receive a one-time college scholarship and are invited to take part in an all-expenses-paid annual Coolidge Senators Summit in Washington, D.C. During the multi-day Summit, Coolidge Senators tour the nation’s capital, discuss pressing issues in policy and business with renowned experts, and engage in formal debates on issues of national importance.
Sophie enjoyed interacting with other senators in the highly selective program. “I really enjoyed getting to meet peers from a wide variety of backgrounds, such as students from Japan and Israel, nationally ranked Quiz Bowl champions, and students who were successful in a variety of international competitions, from music to sailing,” she said. “I quickly made many close friends over the course of the summit I still keep in touch with on a daily basis. From meeting and sharing ideas with internationally renowned leaders in politics and business to debating political and social issues with my fellow senators, the Coolidge Senator Summit was an experience of a lifetime that has opened my eyes to the many possibilities awaiting me in the professional world.”
