Two FCDS Students Accepted to N.C. Governor's School

Congratulations to Ben Schomberg and Sophie Scherer who have been accepted to attend Governor's School this summer. Ben will study English at the East campus of Meredith College, and Sophie will study Natural Sciences at the West campus.

“Governor’s School is a highly competitive program, so having two students selected is quite the testament to both Ben and Sophie. I am glad that we can share our kids with such a great program and that they can benefit from such a wonderful opportunity. Governor’s School has been a perennially life-changing experience for our students,” said FCDS Governor’s School advisor Tamara Harrington.

Here's a fun fact: Both Ben and Sophie have a parent who is a Governor’s School alum. Regina Schomberg attended Governor’s School East, as did Brian Scherer.

Mrs. Harrington also noted that over 1600 students across NC applied; only 670 were selected. Governor’s School is still determining whether the program will be offered in-person or online this year.

Congratulations to Ben and Sophie on this special accomplishment!
