FCDS Middle Schoolers Ace the AMC 8


In January, 52 Middle School students competed in the American Mathematics Contest 8. The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple-choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. This is a national contest and middle school students from across the country competed.  
 
The school winners are Mia Iancu and Sophie Garcia.
 
Special recognition goes to the top scores from each grade:
 
8th Grade
1st Place: Praneel Silwal
2nd Place: Annabelle Bailor
3rd Place: Ramzi Badreddine & Cara Freeman (tied)
 
7th Grade
1st Place: Sophie Garcia
2nd Place: Mac Gafaell, Grayson Gerber & Chandler Robinson (3-way tie)
3rd Place: Miller Pocock & Mason Winter (tied) 
 
6th Grade
1st Place: Mia Iancu 
2nd Place: Eli Meister Kleutghen & Hattie Noland (tied)
3rd Place: Zara Qureshi & Abigail Tan (tied)
 
5th Grade - The scores were all very close so there were a lot of ties!
1st Place: Hunter Baird, Zoya Hasan Bukhari, Lancet Mishra, Adiva Thapa, & Parker Truong  
2nd Place: Molly Cavanaugh, Liam Latham & Claire Vail
3rd Place: Eliza Chaudhry, Aaron Stern & Owen White

“I am so proud of all our students who took the leap and chose to compete. Competing in math competitions shows the student's mathematical interest, desire for growth, and willingness to put forth their best effort,” said their advisor Mrs. Charlotte Phillips.
