Upcoming Visual Arts Competitions, Shows, and Scholarships:Associated Artist's of Winston-Salem has many shows throughout the year. Membership is available for artists 16 and older. Check out their website at Associated Artist's of Winston-Salem. Forsyth Country Day School has paired up with Social Services in Winston-Salem to host rotating shows of student artwork. Pariticipating artists to date have been Bomin Kim and Lindley Battle. This is a unique chance for a solo show in an environment where your art will truly be appreciated. International Artist hosts a monthly art competition. Read the rules and topics prior to submission. Students typically are not too young to enter. Due January 5, 2008: The Scholastics Art and Writing Competition. Please see the handout that I distributed in class for all details! Due May 31, 2008: Anderson University and Tweener Ministries are partnering to sponsor a graphic design contest for teen artists that will support a new chapter book authored by a teen writer. AU will award a $44,000 scholarship ($11,000 each year for four years) to the winning graphic artist. Baker Trittin Press will publish the winning cover art on the published book. The graphic design contest is open to students enrolled in grades 9-12, including homeschoolers. Utrecht sponsors an annual painting competition for students. The deadline is typically in December or January. Piedmont Federal Bank on Peacehaven Road hosts an annual Hometown Graffiti art show. Each school (FCDS, Mt. Tabor, and Reagan High School) is allowed to submit 5 pieces of artwork. Each artist submitting art receives a savings bond and the winning entry from each school receives a $500.00 savings bond. The overall winner takes home the Hometown Graffiti trophy. The North Carolina School of the Arts Kenan Institute hosts an annual Women in the Arts Grant award progrm. Seed money is given to woment in the Winston-Salem community to develop and show their art in the local community. Last year, Mary Bailey Thomas, FCDS Instructor and students Emily Krewson, Emily Branch and Courtney Branch were chosen as grant recipients and participated in the Women in the Arts Exhibition. |
