Upcoming Visual Arts Competitions, Shows, and Scholarships:

Associated Artist's of Winston-Salem has many shows throughout the year. Membership is available for artists 16 and older. Check out their website at Associated Artist's of Winston-Salem.

Forsyth Country Day School has paired up with Social Services in Winston-Salem to host rotating shows of student artwork. Pariticipating artists to date have been Bomin Kim and Lindley Battle. This is a unique chance for a solo show in an environment where your art will truly be appreciated.

International Artist hosts a monthly art competition. Read the rules and topics prior to submission. Students typically are not too young to enter.

Due May 15: The U/S Orchestra is creating a CD of their work and will need a cover for the CD. Given that we have just studied music and art - many of you should feel quite comfortable participating in this. Roughly 300 CD's will be released and the winning artwork will be featured on the front! All submissions are due to Mrs. Stone-Danahy by May 15.

Due May 15: The Upper School Visual Arts Showcase is May 19 and Mrs. Stone-Danahy is in need of cover art for the evening program (click here to see last year's cover art). Any two-dimensional work of art is acceptable. The program cover must include the following:

  • The Annual 2009 Spring Visual Arts Showcase
  • AP and Senior Art Show Opening
  • May 19, 2009
  • 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium

Due May 13, 2009: United States House of Representatives Congressional Art Competition.

  • Only students residing in the 12th Congressional District may compete. Click here to double check your district.
  • All artworks must be original
  • All artwork must be two-dimensional
  • Artwork when framed, can be no larger than 30" high x 30' wide x 4" deep
  • Acceptable categories include: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art, and Photography.
  • Entries should be given to Mrs. Stone-Danahy by May 13, 2009

Due May 20, 2009: United States House of Representatives Congressional Art Competition.

  • Only students residing in the 5th Congressional District may compete. Click here to double check your district.
  • All artworks must be original
  • All artwork must be two-dimensional
  • Artwork when framed, can be no larger than 30" high x 30' wide x 4" deep
  • Acceptable categories include: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art, and Photography.
  • Entries should be given to Mrs. Stone-Danahy by May 20, 2009

Due May 31, 2009: Anderson University and Tweener Ministries are partnering to sponsor a graphic design contest for teen artists that will support a new chapter book authored by a teen writer. AU will award a $44,000 scholarship ($11,000 each year for four years) to the winning graphic artist. Baker Trittin Press will publish the winning cover art on the published book. The graphic design contest is open to students enrolled in grades 9-12, including homeschoolers.

Utrecht sponsors an annual painting competition for students. The deadline is typically in December or January.

Due August 15: GamblinPaints sponsors an annual painting competition using their Torrit Gray color in a creative painting composition. The deadline is August 15, 2009. To view the entry form, click here.
