Just for Freshmen!
This page is designed to provide information necessary for freshmen to prepare for the college application process. It is not meant to replace the interaction that freshmen can have with the FCDS College Counseling Staff. Rather, think of this as a complement to the student-counselor relationship. As the FCDS College Counseling Staff discovers new information for freshmen, we will put it here for your use.
The menu of links under "College Counseling" on the left side of this page will help to get to the information you need. Below is a overview of the planning process:
- Become involved in the Upper School. Take your studies seriously and explore extracurricular opportunities. Set academic goals for the year.
- Create a system for keeping up with your extracurricular activities, leadership positions, community service, honors, awards, summer experiences, and jobs.
- Either a computer generated file or an accordion file will be fine. Update your extracurricular activities each quarter.
- Attend a group counseling session with your college counselor to discuss your high school transcript, GPA computation, course selection, and the college planning resources available at FCDS. These sessions will be held at the beginning of second quarter in freshmen English classes.
