Scholarship Opportunities
There are many different types of scholarship opportunities available to Forsyth Country Day School students. Some scholarships are based solely on merit, which includes not only academic achievements, but other talents and leadership ability. Other scholarships are based solely on financial need. There are scholarships available from the various military academies as well as ROTC programs. In addition, there are a number of corporations who give scholarships either to children of their employees or to other qualified applicants. National Merit Scholarships are based entirely on scores students achieve on the PSAT test taken in their junior year. These students will be notified if they become a part of this selection process. In some cases Forsyth Country Day School is required to nominate candidates to compete for scholarships. In other cases the colleges or universities select candidates from their application pool. Some schools require that students fill out additional scholarship application forms used by that institution. Other schools simply make their decisions based on the information in the applications themselves. Once you have decided which colleges or universities you will be applying to, go to the web site and thoroughly investigate all of the information available for scholarships or financial assistance. An easy way to locate this information is to go to the Visiting Colleges part of our College Counseling web site and use the link available there.
The Scholarship Committee of Forsyth Country Day School is composed of the Upper School Head, the College Counselors and several faculty members. This committee will nominate students for the following:
The John Motley Morehead Foundation at UNC – Chapel Hill
(Qualified NC applicants may self nominate)
The Park Scholarship at North Carolina State
The Jefferson Scholarship at the University of Virginia
Coca Cola Scholarship (self nomination available)
Prudential Spirit of Community
Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship (NC legislature)
Wendy’s High School Heisman
Other scholarship opportunities, in addition to those listed above, may require the school's nomination. In those cases, the Scholarship Committee will convene to select nominees.
When considering nominees, the Scholarship Committee operates under the selection criteria required by the university or organization sponsoring the scholarship.
The College Counseling Staff is available to answer questions and to guide you through this process.
