George Conway - Headmaster, St. Anne’s-Belfield School

The Reverend Dr. George E. Conway is a headmaster who has spent his professional life as a teacher, counselor, chaplain, coach and administrator in independent schools from New England to Virginia. He is the past president of the Virginia Association of Independent School and the Council for Religion in Independent Schools. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association Committee on Issues of State and National Importance and he has served the Governor of Virginia on the Champion Schools Commission and as chair of the State Board of Education Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure. In 1987 he was selected to brief President Bush prior to the first education summit.

Dr. Conway holds degrees from Wilkes University, Princeton Theological Seminary and Boston University. He has written in professional journals on school size, school choice and has spoken widely on moral issues in schools. Since 1982, he has been headmaster of St. Anne’s-Belfield School, a co-educational college preparatory school in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he lives with his wife and daughter.

Dr. Conway is the author of the book Giving Good Gifts: The Spiritual Journey of Parenthood, in which he discusses seven spiritual gifts parents can give to their children, gifts that will help children of all ages form a healthy spiritual identity.

Dr. Conway draws from a deep well of experience, a wisdom gained from the trenches of the ministry, and a lifetime of biblical study. The result is Giving Good Gifts: The Spiritual Journey of Parenthood, a practical guidebook for all parents.
