This year our entire school community is focusing on a key theme - moving our school from good to great. This central theme is explicated in great detail in a recent book by Jim Collins entitled Good To Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…and Others Don't. His thesis is that we don't have great [schools] principally because we have good schools. Because good is the enemy of great, he argues, shifting from one paradigm to the next is quite a challenge.
Among the initiatives we are undertaking in our move from Good To Great are numerous facilities and technology additions; becoming more counter-cultural as a school; understanding how our philosophy fits within our community and the world at large; expanding our music, drama, and performing arts programs at Forsyth Country Day School; incorporating some of the latest research on the brain and how it takes in and processes information, and improving the ways in which we work with students across the curriculum; adopting an All Kinds of Minds approach to learning; and – importantly - any ideas our students can offer to help us improve as a school. Over the past year, our students have provided valuable input, some of which is published on our website. We also offer the ability to make suggestions for our school improvement process through our web interface.
As with our students, we invite each of our parents to offer any suggestions they may have as well. Please revisit this site from time to time to catch up on our students' suggestions and add your own as we work our way through this paradigm-shifting process.
