911 ceremonyHenry (Hank) M. Battle, Jr. is the father of two children, husband of Linda Garrett Battle, and headmaster at Forsyth Country Day School. Mr. Battle came to Forsyth Country Day in 1999 after serving as headmaster at Stratford Academy in Macon, Georgia. A former classroom teacher and coach, Mr. Battle also has held administrative positions at the Lovett School, St. Anne’s-Belfield School, and Charlotte Latin School. He has taught in independent schools for more than 25 years. Mr. Battle holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Additionally, he has done postgraduate work at both Union Theological Seminary and the University of Virginia, where he was a Jefferson and Lassen Fellow.

Mr. Battle was named a Klingenstein Visiting Fellow at Columbia University Teachers College in 2003, and he holds a second-degree black belt in karate and a third-degree black belt in tae kwon do. Among the subjects he has taught in his independent school career are economics, political issues, government and foreign affairs, geography, history, tae kwon do, Bible, philosophy, Palm OS, and English. In the 2005-2006 academic year, Mr. Battle began teaching a Headmaster's Internship class to a select group of juniors and seniors.
