Ray grew up in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and attended the University of Vermont, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1989. After marrying his "college sweetheart," Wendy (the current FCDS Assistant Director of the Middle School), the two moved to Asheville, where Ray served at The Asheville School as a teacher, coach, and administrator for 11 years. Since coming to FCDS in July 2000, Ray has taught algebra I, algebra II, and AP statistics. He has also served as the head coach of the boys' varsity baseball team, the assistant director of the Upper School, the academic dean, and as the assistant headmaster. He is currently the associate athletic director. Ray is currently serving his second term as the PACIS conference representative to the Board of Managers of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, and has also served as a board member for the West Central Community Center basketball league. His hobbies include golfing, collecting sports memorabilia, traveling, and passionately supporting the Boston Red Sox. Ray also enjoy spending as much time as possible with Wendy and their two children, Kelly (FCDS Class of 2009) and Jonathan (FCDS Class of 2012).
