Erik earned his bachelor's degree from Gardner-Webb University in physical education (with a minor in art), making the dean's list while competing in the school's Division I wrestling program. As a student-athlete, Erik was AAU Grand National All-American Freestyle. He was named University Freestyle All-American in 2001, and was ranked in the top 10 nationally at the 174-pound weight class. He was named Gardner-Webb's Male Athlete of the Year in 2003 - the same year he was recognized as an NCAA National Qualifier (the first in the school's Division I history in any sport). Most recently, Erik served as an assistant wrestling coach at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., leading practices and strength-training; managing statistical analysis; coordinating recruiting, fundraising, and publicity; and leading his student-athletes to reach their full potential both on the mats and in their lives. Before moving to Davidson, Erik was head wrestling coach, head boy's cross-country coach, strength and conditioning coach, and an athletic trainer at Hickory High School in Hickory, N.C. He led the boy's cross-country team to a Top 5 state finish, wrote weight- training programs for male and female athletes, and led the strength and conditioning program for all high school sports. Erik served as assistant junior freestyle coach for Team North Carolina in 2004, helping to lead the team in the National Duals in Enid, Oklahoma, and led Team North Carolina as head junior freestyle coach at its meet in Fargo, North Dakota for the USA Wrestling National Tournament that same year.He also has been the featured clinician at numerous camps and high schools from 2002 to the present, has served as an off-season trainer at Davidson College, and was a workshop leader at Randy Hoover Extreme Karate. In addition, Erik is Bronze Certified by USA Wrestling as a National Teams Coach.
