Sara is originally from Tennessee but she has been a local for some years as she earned her bachelor of arts degree in mathematics with a minor in education, summa cum laude, from Wake Forest University in May 2005. She has had a great deal of experience working with teenagers ever since moving to Winston-Salem--as a Young Life leader while in college, as a private math tutor during and after college, and as a teacher. Sara taught at Mount Tabor High School for two years before joining the FCDS faculty in the MAP program.

Sara not only loves teaching math but continually works to develop her math curricula for the 21st century learner. Her use of innovative multisensory tools and progressive methodologies, as well as her persistence in developing students’ conceptual understanding, will ensure that there is never a boring moment in math class!

As much as Sara loves mathematics education she has a variety of other interests. She serves as the assistant Cross Country coach and assistant Track coach at FCDS, and also as an All Kinds of Minds Facilitator ®. She values her many cross-cultural experiences and enjoys sharing them with others, having traveled to Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Japan, Italy, and Greece. This school year she and her husband are hosting an exchange student from Germany and are excited to learn more about the world in general and German culture in particular.

Sara is married to Robbie who is a radiology resident at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. When they have time to themselves they enjoy hiking, backpacking, ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, and home improvement projects. They have an 80-pound labradoodle named Abby who is usually up to no good but whom they love unconditionally.
