Mike Burnett joined our staff as head lacrosse coach in 2006, bringing with him extensive experience and expertise as both a player and coach. He earned his bachelor's degree in recreation administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Tar Heel lacrosse standout. He was one of the most exceptional lacrosse players in ACC history (he's ranked in the Top 50 ACC lacrosse players of all time), earning first-team All-American status in 1981 and 1982 (when he led UNC-Chapel Hill in back-to-back undefeated seasons). He was chosen All-ACC in 1981, 1982, and 1983, and was named the 1981 ACC Player of the Year. After college, Mike began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach under the Tar Heels' legendary Willie Scroggs. In the late 80s, Mike served as an assistant lacrosse coach at the U.S. Naval Academy before moving to high school coaching. Mike served as an assistant coach at the Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland, for two years, then worked as head coach there from 1991 to 1993. He joined St. Mary's in 1996, holding the positions of JV lacrosse coach, offensive coordinator, and varsity assistant coach, and finally, head coach. In addition, Mike was the lacrosse camp director at Severn and St. Mary's and taught physical education at Severn for three years. For the past four years, Mike has served as an assistant coach at UNC-Chapel Hill. Mike and his wife Inger have three children, all of whom will attend FCDS: Emily, Hannah, and Jack.
