Our Director of the Multisensory Academy of Practitioners (MAP) hails from the Boston area and her education includes a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in Education - both from Wake Forest University. While at Wake, Kristen was a key contributor on the field hockey field as that program was building toward the national powerhouse it is today.

Kristen has taught at both West Forsyth and Mt. Tabor High School locally and was recognized as the winner of the prestigious Marcellus Waddill Excellence in Teaching Award in the fall of 2006. This national teaching award recognizes the best and the brightest in the field of education. She also achieved National Board Certification in 2006 and is a past recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award at Mt. Tabor. Kristen created the Ninth Grade Academy, which targets and assesses at-risk students in the local public schools. The Literacy Project was also established under Kristen's leadership at Mt. Tabor and resulted in the donation of more than 2000 books for use in the classroom. She has successfully completed the All Kinds of Minds Schools Attuned professional development course which assists educators in using neurodevelopmental content in their classrooms needed to help frustrated students break through barriers to success - and reclaim the joy in learning. Kristen utilizes her impressive classroom experience in leading both the MAP faculty and students. She strongly believes that innovative teaching can reach all learners.

Kristen's passion and strengths are not only on display in the classroom. She began the field hockey program at Mt. Tabor and led the Furies into the 2006 state semi-finals in just her first year at the helm of the program at FCDS. This past year she again led the Furies to a tournament berth. Not surprisingly, her efforts were recognized with a Conference Coach of the Year award for the past two seasons. Kristen has also established the Southeastern Field Hockey Showcase as the premiere opportunity in the southeast for budding college athletes to display their skills for a group of college coaches from all over the country.

Kristen is married to Dennis, the Director of the Fury Club at FCDS, and they have two boys, Reilly and Colby, who attend FCDS.
