Andy, a former FCDS student, earned a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from North Carolina State University, and a master's degree in education with certification in secondary biology from Wake Forest University, where he was a member of the Master Teacher Fellows program. He taught for a year at the Downtown Middle School, and taught at Mount Tabor High School from 1999 to 2006, where he also served as assistant coach for the cross-country and track teams. Andy also worked in the Department of Education at Wake Forest as a clinical faculty member. Andy is a National Board Certified Teacher, a former Teacher of the Year from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools, and an honoree of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He teaches science and math and heads FCDS's "Green Campus Initiative," a campus-wide program that invests in new technologies and systems that decrease FCDS's carbon footprint, make a measurable impact in terms of real financial savings and contribute to a cleaner environment. Through operational and behavioral changes the school improves operating efficiency and demonstrates environmental stewardship. Andy is also the head cross-country coach. His teams have won conference and state championships. Andy and his wife Meredith have two children: Anna, who attends FCDS and Caroline.
